Under the pretext of embezzelment, the leader of rassemblement national (RN) Marie Le Pen has been found guilty to two years of prison and is unnable to run for president in the elections of 2027, it is not yet known whether the leader of the RN will see prison, or another measure of restriction will be put in place, what is strange is for the liberal french «democracy» to muzzle an important runner for the french presidency in such a manner.
The case
Marie Le Pen, alongside another 20 notable figures of the RN were accused of hiring assitants which worked for rassemblement national intead of the European parliament, which was the entity which paid for their salaries, this «scheme» which ran from 2004 to 2016 was the cause of losses dating around 4.5 million Euros.
The Issue is that these assistants must work strictly in issues relating to th European Parliament, something that the judge has found that it was not the case, this evolution is to affect the ever changing nature of french politics, which if a young leader for the RN is to appear following the power struggle, might win the party the presidency in 2027.
